Guy J.Harper, 66, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at Deaconness Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
He was born April 25, 1932, at Star City, Ind., son of George and Dowana McFarland Harper. He and Kathleen A. Canfield were married June 9, 1984, at Mishawaka, Ind.
Harper graduated from Star City High School and attended Purdue University and the University of Missouri in Columbia.
He worked 14 years with the Essex Wire Corp. in Logansport, Ind., three years with the White Rodgers Co. in St. Louis, nine years with Harvard Interiors Manufacturing Co. in St. Louis and 20 years with Golden Cat, a division of Ralston Purina. He worked as a plant manager in Bloomfield and later as vice president of manufacturing in Cape Girardeau. He retired in 1996.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was past president of the St. Vincent parish council.
He was an active volunteer for Notre Dame High School, a member of the new Notre Dame building committee and vice president of Notre Dame Education Fund Foundation Board.
He was the past vice president and president of the Sorptive Mineral Association in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; a son, Chris Canfield of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Debi Fred of Rochester, Ind., and Kelli and Katie Canfield, both of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Daryl Harper of Logansport, Ind., and Harold Harper of South Carolina; a sister, Phyllis Crist of Winamac, Ind.; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with parish prayers at 7.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Milton Ryan will officiate, with burial at Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
