BENTON -- Former postmaster Jordan Theon "Gus" Robert, 68, of Benton died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Sept. 15, 1930, at Benton, son of Theon Emil and Emma LeDure Robert. He and Evelyn "Marie" Hency were married Sept. 20, 1956, at Benton.
Robert retired in 1996 as postmaster at the Benton Post Office. He also was a farmer and cattleman.
A lifelong resident of Benton, he was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Registered Angus Association, Benton Chamber of Commerce, Retired Postmasters Association, Scott County Historical Society, and was a volunteer at St. Francis Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ken Robert of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Pam Glastetter of Benton; stepmother, Ginny Robert of Benton; two brothers, Vernon Robert of Cape Girardeau, Don Robert of Benton; a sister, Georgianna Bohannon of Benton; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, his parents and two brothers.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton after 4 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Denis Church, with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
