Grace Ida Reid, 97, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
She was born Aug. 16, 1909, in Sedgewickville, daughter of George F. and Ella Lou Johnson Ellis. She and John W. Reid were married Jan. 22, 1938, in Bardwell, Ky. He died Aug. 14, 2001.
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She moved to Cape Girardeau in 1938. She was a member of Eastern Star, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and charter member of United Methodist Women. She attended College High School and Oak Ridge High School, and taught in Bollinger County rural schools.
She is survived by a grandson, Scott Reid of Farmington, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Susan Reid of El Segundo, Calif.; a grandson, John W. Reid III of Coppell, Texas, a grandson, Patrick Reid of Jefferson City, Mo.; a brother, Ben Ellis of Sedgewickville; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, John W. Reid II (Jan. 28, 1991), three brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Karen Mustoe officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society.
