Gordon Leon Morgan, 78, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at his home. He was born Jan. 17, 1944, in Morley, Missouri, to Reece and Sylvia Knotts Morgan. Gordon and Fawn Fornkohl were married June 30, 1979, in Cape Girardeau. He served honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, from 1965 to 1968. Gordon Leon Morgan, 78, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at his home.

He was born Jan. 17, 1944, in Morley, Missouri, to Reece and Sylvia Knotts Morgan. Gordon and Fawn Fornkohl were married June 30, 1979, in Cape Girardeau.

He served honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, from 1965 to 1968. He was awarded the Marksman (Rifle M-14) and Sharpshooter (Carbine) medals.

He excelled in restoring vehicles, boats and tractors.

"Capt. Morgan" was proudly employed by the Cape Girardeau Fire Department for 31 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for all things, including hunting and fishing, and also being a lifetime member of the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Christie (Alan) Schoen of Cape Girardeau, Tammy (Gary) Elders of Scott City and Tabatha (John S. Alexander) Morgan of Scott City; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Jacob and Samuel Elders, Hilary (David) Rhoden and Ballas and Bayden Schoen; and five great-grandchildren, Lily, Carter, Brynlee, Evelyn and Sophia.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Reece Morgan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating.

Firefighters' processional leading to burial with full military honors will be at New Morley Cemetery in Morley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Cape Girardeau Fire Rescue Foundation Fund or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
