Gordon L. Brown, 79, of Scott City passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 4, 1938, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Clyde Emanuel and Viola Vesta Martin Brown. Gordon L. Brown, 79, of Scott City passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 4, 1938, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Clyde Emanuel and Viola Vesta Martin Brown.

Gordon worked in various places, National Food Stores, Wolverine Insurance Co., John Deere Harvester Works, Caterpillar (Davenport), DG & J Properties Inc. and others. He was treasurer for three different churches. Gordon was a 1956 graduate of Battle Creek Central School, where he played baritone in both the marching band and concert orchestra.

Gordon married Nellie Fay Abel in April 1957. They had three children, Cynthia (Robert) Kilbourn, Victoria Brown and Michael Brown. They later divorced. Gordon then married Maxine Hasselman Versluys, and they had two children, Rose Marie Brown and Paul Brown. They later divorced. Gordon then married Donna Lee Kent in December 1970. Gordon and Donna adopted Jonathan Noel Brown and moved to Scott City in October 2014.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Donna; his sons, Michael, Paul and Jonathon; a daughter, Cynthia; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Victoria and Rose; and a sister, Sherrill R. Brown Lewis.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Church in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Jay Tyler officiating.
