Golden English Neely Jr., 69, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Sept. 25, 1930, at Poplar Bluff, son of the Golden English and Mollie George Neely Sr. He and Jennie Lee Walker were married on Nov. 6, 1953, at Manila, Ark. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau and had served as an Air Force meteorologist during the Korean War.
A graduate of Mexico High School, he had attended Washington University in St. Louis and Southeast Missouri State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education. He received a master's degree in education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg and had been a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association.
He spent many years as a school superintendent throughout Missouri, most recently at Zalma and Bell City in the 1970s. He was self-employed in the wholesale business. Prior to retirement he worked at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark and Joel Neely, both of Jackson; one brother, James Neely of Jefferson City; one sister, Louise Dowell of Mexico; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park.
