PATTON, Mo. -- Glenwood H. Propst, 83, of Patton died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born May 21, 1938, in St. Louis to Howard and Ruby Propst. On June 1, 1957, he married Edith J. Yamnitz, and they enjoyed 63 years together before her passing Sept. 19, 2020. A part of his heart went with her that day, and the family takes comfort knowing they have been reunited in heaven.
Glenwood started his working career at Duro-Chrome and McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis. He returned to Patton, where he worked for the state Department of Transportation for 32 years before retiring to follow his passion for cars by starting the family car business, Glen's Auto Sales. He did bodywork on cars, while his wife assisted with the detailing. Together, they would travel around for dealer trades, visiting new places and enjoying each other's company.
Glenwood was an active member of Patton United Methodist Church. Sunday afternoons with his family were very important for him. He enjoyed collecting old cars, restoring old tractors and, during his down time, spending time with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Joe Venneman.
He leaves behind three children, Randy (Cindy) Propst of Cape Girardeau, Tammy (Richard) VanGennip of Marble Hill, Missouri, and Tina (Scott) Henderson of Fredericktown, Missouri. He was a proud grandpa to Amber (Joey) Beard of Jackson, Tyler (Laura) Propst of Jackson, Drew (Faith) Henderson of Patton, Riley Henderson of Fredericktown and Trevor Propst of Cape Girardeau; and great-grandpa to Brady, August and Halle Beard, Addilyn and Brinnly Henderson and Maria Propst; and two great-grand babies to join the family this summer.
Additional survivors are a sister, Shirley (Howard) Seabaugh; sisters-in-law, Joyce Yamnitz and Joyce Nations; and many nieces and nephews.
Glenwood was preceded in death by his wife; three great-grand angels; parents; infant brother, Larry; sisters Sharon and Sue Propst; brothers-in-law, Ronald and Carl Yamnitz; and niece, Kim Henry.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Liley Funeral Home in Patton.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David McCutcheon officiating. Burial will follow in Patton Cemetery near Patton.
