Glennetta Houck, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born Jan. 14, 1935, in Neely’s Landing to Glenn S. and Mable H. Kassel Johnson. She and William D. Houck were married Oct. 7, 1950, in Arkansas. He preceded her in death Aug. 28, 1978.
Glennetta was a waitress at Holiday Inn from 1972 until it closed. She then worked as a baker at Saxony Village until the age of 85. She was also a Mary Kay consultant from 1984 to 2023.
She baked cookies for veterans at Missouri Veterans Home every Fourth of July and Christmas for 20 years. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Waylon Jennings fan.
She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, Dennis (Debbie) Houck of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Sally (Greg) Bronenkant of Fruitland and Tammy (Jeff) Messmer of Jackson; two half brothers, Steven Johnson of Cape Girardeau and Samuel Johnson of Dutchtown; sister, JoAnn Johnson Nemeth of San Diego; half sister, Nancy Burroughs; grandchild, Ashley (Beau) Dunning; four stepgrandchildren, Josh (Heather) Cunningham, Tara (Josh) Beussink, Dalton Bronenkant and Garrett Bronenkant; three great-grandchildren, Hank, Hannah and Maverick Dunning; and two great-stepgrandchildren, Amzie and Kenna Beussink.
Glennetta was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Doyle W. Houck; four brothers, Kenneth, Ronnie, Dickie and Thomas Johnson; stepbrother, Ronnie May; sister, Sally Jane Lovell; and stepsister, Sue Coomer.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tim Koehler officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Andrew Lutheran Church or Lutheran Home Hospice.
