Edna Glenneta Vogelsang, 93, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, June 26, 2022, in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 24, 1929, to Glenn and Hazel Van Winkle Allen. On Aug. 15, 1947, she wed Calvin C. Vogelsang. They were blessed with four children, Sharon Eve, David Calvin, Steven Allen and Daniel "Danny" Charles.
Early on she resided in Oriole and attended Indian Creek School, eventually moving to Cape Girardeau and attending Franklin Elementary School and graduating from Cape Girardeau Central High School.
While raising her family, Glenneta worked for Southwestern Bell, J.C. Penney's and Central Junior and Senior High schools as the secretary to the vice principals.
She was an active member with VFW Post 3838 Ladies' Auxiliary, an Auxiliary Missouri Region 13 officer and president, Missouri State president and the 1985-86 national president of the VFW Auxiliary for the nation. Her motto was "The Guardians of Liberty," and her pin emblem was the Missouri Bluebird. Throughout the years, she was dedicated to improving the lives of veterans, service members, their families and communities. The VFW Code of "Honor the Dead by Helping the Living" was a goal she lived by. She initiated the Missouri VFW Auxiliary Past-Presidents Scholarship Award.
She served as vice president and board member for VIP Industries and Regency House from their inception in the early 1980s until 2018. Glenneta was honored to be considered for the Southeast Missourian's 2014 Spirit of America Award.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Kay; husband, Calvin; brother-in-law, Harry David Brown; and son-in-law, Sam Stausing.
Survivors include her sister, Avis Ann Brown of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and children, Sharon Stausing of Union, Missouri; David (Apryl) Vogelsang of Grapevine, Texas; Steven Vogelsang of Cape Girardeau; Dan Vogelsang (Nancy Skarbowski) of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Grandchildren are Dax and Dane (Julie) Stausing, Taylor (Andrew Shelton) Vogelsang, Ross Vogelsang and Blake (Justin) Vogelsang-Richwine. Great-grandchildren are Xander Stausing, Tabor Stausing, Ziera Stausing and Hayden Richwine. She is also survived by many loving nieces and their families.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home on Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lorimier Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau or VIP Industries in Cape Girardeau.
