VILLA RIDGE, Ill. -- Glenn Watkins Mathis, 81, of Boulder, Colo., and formerly of the "America" community in rural Villa Ridge, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 1994, at the Terrace Heights Nursing Center in Boulder.
He was born at America on Oct. 16, 1913, the son of James William and Allie Watkins Mathis.
He was a retired engineer with the McCray Co. He also was a schoolteacher for seven years, teaching at the Western Military School and in schools in Equality, Ill., and Stonefort, Ill. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Counter Mathis of Boulder; a son, Roger of Boulder; a daughter, Charlotte Mathis of Denver; and two sisters, Helen Barton and Edith Thrailkill, both of Venice, Fla.
Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, where funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Tom Ellison will officiate, and burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds.
