Glenn Stroder

WHITEWATER, Mo. -- W. Glenn Stroder, 80, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at his home in Whitewater.

He was born March 3, 1921, at Whitewater, son of M. Luther and M. Lela Heimbach Stroder. He and Ruby Marie Cook were married Nov. 24, 1956.

Loving survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Susan Stroder of Collinsville, Ill.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie Stroder of Whitewater, Connie and Eric Waltenberger of Edwardsville, Ill.; two brothers, Carl Stroder of Marion, Ill., John Stroder of Granite City, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jason, Ashleigh and Jessica Stroder, Nathan Stroder, and Wyatt Waltenberger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.

Mr. Stroder attended Southeast Missouri State University, and then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from Nov. 25, 1942, to April 14, 1946. In 1951 he began working at Granite City Steel (now National Steel) in Granite City, Ill., retiring in 1979 as an engineer/switchman.

In 1980 the Stroders moved from Granite City to Whitewater. They attended Bethlehem General Baptist Church. Mr. Stroder was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, Mo.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Joe Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Methodist Cemetery at Gordonville, Mo., with a Missouri Military Honors service.
