SIKESTON, Mo. -- Glenn R. Jones, 79, of Sikeston died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 21, 1921, at Morehouse, Mo., son of Robert N. and Ruth Vaselo Jones. He and Bonita Baugher were married Sept. 5, 1946, in Sikeston. She died Nov. 30, 1979.
Jones was water plant operator with Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities. He was a lifelong resident of the Sikeston area, and was a member of Clayton Avenue Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received a Purple Heart. He also served in Missouri National Guard from February 1953 to November 1975.
Survivors include four sons, Danny Jones of Union City, Tenn., Jimmy and Wesley Jones of Sikeston, Donald Jones of Essex, Mo.; four daughters, Sondra Wills, Brenda Williams and Iva Massey of Sikeston, Lisa Jones of the home; a brother, Leo Jones of Edmonds, Wash.; 26 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a daughter, a brother, four sisters, and a grandson.
Friends may call at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 6-9 p.m. today.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. James Kinsey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military rites provided by Missouri Military Honors Program.
