JACKSON -- Glen H. Thompson, 71, of Jackson died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on April 8, 1928 in Oak Ridge, son of Virgil and Ada Ruesler Thompson.

He and Linda J. Riehn were married Nov. 23, 1952, in Oak Ridge. She survives.

Thompson was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson and United Methodist Men' s Club.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955 and was a member of the Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post No. 158 in Jackson, where he formerly served as commander.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Excelsior Masonic Lodge No. 441 AF & AM in Jackson and Sword of Bunker Hill. He previously served as master of Oak Ridge Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge No. 221 AF and AM. He was also a member of the Jackson Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star No. 91 and the Southeast Missouri District Fair Association. He formerly served as a community leader of the Jackson 4-H Club.

He was an adult leader and inducted into the Order of Arrow of the Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 311. He formerly worked as a meat cutter at Jackson Frozen Foods, Bierschwal Meat Market, Wards Foods, Town and Country and Save-A-Lot. He retired in 1993 from Schapers IGA in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Linda J. Thompson of Jackson; two sons, Bradley L. Thompson and his wife, Paula, of Jackson, and Brian L. Thompson and his wife, Amy, of Jackson; a daughter, Brenda L. Thompson of Chesterfield; father and stepmother, Virgil and Lela Thompson of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Nelson Thompson of Oak Ridge and Dale Thompson of Biehle; a sister, Gladys Nitsch of Jackson; and two grandsons, James and Blake Thompson, both of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. John Rice officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
