JONESBORO, Ill. -- Gladys Skelton, 98, of Jonesboro died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at City Care Center in Anna. She was born July 8, 1899, in Alexander County, daughter of Jacob and Mary Rachel Waller Mitchell. She and Charles L. Skelton were married June 14, 1915. He died Nov. 26, 1964...

JONESBORO, Ill. -- Gladys Skelton, 98, of Jonesboro died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at City Care Center in Anna.

She was born July 8, 1899, in Alexander County, daughter of Jacob and Mary Rachel Waller Mitchell. She and Charles L. Skelton were married June 14, 1915. He died Nov. 26, 1964.

Skelton was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Skelton of Jonesboro; a daughter, Opal Lingle of Vienna; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three daughters, a son, a brother and three sisters.

Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Vienna Fraternal Cemetery, with David Soucie officiating.

Crain Funeral Home of Anna is in charge of arrangements.
