Gladys Retherford

Gladys Marie Retherford, 76, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, at her home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1946, in Cape Girardeau to Elroy and Erna Gray Mueller. She and Charlie Retherford were married July 28, 1962, at Cape Girardeau. They were married for 60 years.

In April 1998 she started The Holy Ghost Prayer Line, where she was able to pray for people in need. Through this she blessed many people and left an impression on many lives. She spent her entire life devoted to God and worked every day to make sure she spent eternity in his glory. She was a member of The Apostolic Promise Church in Cape Girardeau.

Gladys was a seamstress at Thorngate Ltd.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Retherford; a son, Shawn (Mandy) Retherford; three daughters, Tammy (John) Lutes, Connie (Allen) Keller and Paula Simms; three brothers, Delbert (Jackie) Mueller, David (Christine) Mueller and Marty (Dessilee) Mueller; a sister, Carolyn Kissiar; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her two special caregivers, Charli and Danielle Simms.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marilyn Dodd; and two brothers-in-law, Larry Kissiar and Eddie Dodd.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Timothy Lee officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with her grandchildren carrying her to her final resting place.
