GLADYS HELMS

MATTHEWS -- Funeral service for Gladys Helms of Matthews will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. The Revs. John Thompson and Jerry Turner will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.

Helms, 81, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, at Life Care Center in LaCenter, Ky.

She was born Jan. 5, 1916, in Lawrence County, Ark., daughter of Joe and Eliza Goff. She and Frank Helms were married March 12, 1940. He died March 15, 1995.

Helms assisted her husband in farming until retiring in 1980. She attended Kewanee Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Jan Moss of Wickliffe, Ky.; a sister, Vida Jones of Smithville, Ark.; two brothers, Webster Goff of Smithville, Walker Goff of Walnut, Ark.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
