ALTENBURG, Mo. -- Gladys C. Engert, 89, of Altenburg passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at her home.
She was born Aug. 4, 1932, in Farrar, Missouri, daughter of Theodore and Clara Kassel Lorenz. She and Norman Engert were married Oct. 22, 1955, at Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar. He preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1998.
Gladys retired from the Peoples Bank of Altenburg in 1997. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, past member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and a docent at the Lutheran Heritage Museum.
Survivors include four daughters and a son, Pat (Bob) Wichern and Donna (Paul) Strattman of Perryville, Missouri, Sandy (Gary) Kassel of Jackson, Vicki (Kevin) Leimbach of Shawneetown and Mike (Kellie) Engert of Altenburg; grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer) Wichern, Chad Wichern, Brent (Aryn) Kassel, Katie (Jake) Dority, Lauren (Tyler) Rolens, Brock Engert, Korby Engert, Chad (Kim) Strattman, Todd (Nikki) Strattman, Cory (Renee) Strattman and Cari (Justin) Barnes; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Hubert and Arnold Lorenz; and two sisters, Alice Wichern and Lucille Fristche
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Young East Perry Funeral Home in Altenburg, and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Steven Dressler officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran Heritage Museum, United in Christ Lutheran School or Saxony Lutheran High School.
