Gladys Compas, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born March 1, 1919, at Chaffee, daughter of Earnest Kirby and Ida Mae Williams Crump. She and Leo George Compas Jr. were married Nov. 9, 1940, in Cape Girardeau.
Compas was a sewing machine operator more than 30 years at Ralph Edwards Sportswear. She was a graduate of Chaffee High School.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Daughters of Isabella. She was a volunteer at Cape Girardeau Senior Center more than five years.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and JoAnn Compas of Johnston City, Ill., Gerry and Linda Compas of Carlsbad, Calif.; three brothers, Harold Crump and Paul Crump of Chaffee, Clifford Crump of Belleville, Ill.; four sisters, Ethel Anderson of Scott City, Bernice Ancell of Chaffee, Dorothy Nobles of Scott City, and Coletta Hahn of Chaffee.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Michele Rushing of Carbondale, Ill., Darrell Compas of Columbia, S.C., Roger Compas of Johnston City, Molly Compas of Houston, Texas, Craig Compas of Cape Girardeau, Sean Compas and Jonathan Compas of Carlsbad; and two great-grandchildren, Chandler Hudson of Houston and Sydnee Rushing of Carbondale.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Jane Compas, and a sister, Irene Dennis.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Friday. Parish prayers will be at 7, followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cape Girardeau Senior Center.
