CHARLESTON -- Gladys Ruth Chilton, 79, of Charleston died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at East Prairie Nursing Center.
She was born March 21, 1919, in Hickman, Ky., daughter of Henry and Clara Adams Nichols. She and Walter Chilton were married Nov. 13, 1937. He died March 15, 1965.
Chilton retired as a cook at Charleston Schools. She attended Full Gospel Church in East Prairie.
Survivors include a son, Richard Chilton of New Orleans, La.; six daughters, Barbara Busby of St. Louis, Carolyn Martin of Cape Girardeau, Janey Church of Union City, Tenn., Susan Campbell of Memphis, Tenn., Debra Pennick of Dallas, Texas, and Margie Washburn of Charleston.
Also surviving are three brothers, Roscoe Nichols of Ohio, Delbert Nichols of Atlanta, Ga., Frank Nichols of Hickman, Ky.; two sisters, Effie Lane of Hickman, Joann Lyell of Union City, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shelby Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Pastor Burl Britt will officiate, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Friends may call at the chapel Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time.
