CAIRO, Ill. -- Gilbert R. Swoboda III, 57, of Cairo died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at his home.
He was born Oct. 30, 1946, in Cairo, son of Gilbert R. and Dimples Swoboda.
Swoboda was a graduate of Murray State University in Murray, Ky. He retired as office manager for Gilbert R. Swoboda and Co. Wholesale Liquors.
He was a member of Cairo Baptist Church, VFW Post 2649, AmVets and Cairo Elks Lodge 651.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Swoboda; two sons, Stephen Swoboda of Scott City, Gregory Swoboda of Cairo; his parents of Cairo; and a sister, Nancy Doss of Cairo.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Heights Cemetery at Mounds, Ill., with military honors by Pulaski County VFW Post 8891 of Mounds and the U.S. Army.
