Gilbert Leimer

Gilbert L. Leimer, 89, of Fruitland passed away Jan. 7, 2010, at Monticello House in Jackson.

He was born Aug. 15, 1920, in Fruitland, to Charles and Mary Gross Leimer. He and Lela Trickey were married June 4, 1939. They had been married nearly 44 years when she passed away March 12, 1983. He and Jeanette Moore were married July 11, 1987.

Gilbert was a lifelong farmer in the Fruitland area. He previously was an owner-operator of the former Kasten Implement in Jackson and then an owner-operator of the former Feeders Warehouse in Jackson for nearly 18 years. After retirement, he volunteered for the Jackson Food Pantry, the Senior Citizens Center in Jackson, United Way of Southeast Missouri and the American Red Cross.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, where he served in many capacities.

Loving survivors include his wife of 22 years, Jeanette of Jackson; a son, Lee (Wanda) Leimer of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Angela Miller of Fruitland; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Porter-Leimer of Jackson; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Leimer; infant twin sons, James and Gene; a grandson, Tony Ruch; two brothers, Ruben and Elmer Leimer; and three sisters, Mildred Brown, Norma Robinson and Viola Huffman.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bruce Ritter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas or Jackson Senior Citizen Center.
