GORDONVILLE -- Former mayor Gilbert N. Gross, 69, of Gordonville died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 29, 1928, at Gordonville, son of John and Theresia Wunderlich Gross. He and Lorene Peetz were married Oct. 14, 1956, at Tilsit.
Gross was a route salesman with Macke Equipment Inc. from 1976-94. He also had been an inspector with Missouri State Scale, and had worked at W.R. Grace Fertilizer Co. in Delta.
He had served as mayor of Gordonville, and was a former member of Gordonville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and had served on its financial board and as treasurer
Gross was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, Mended Hearts, and was a volunteer at Southeast Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mary Gross of Gordonville, Sherry Kasten of Perryville, Tammy Kasten of Uniontown; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 3:30-8 p.m. today, and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Christ Church, with the Rev. D. Lee Cullen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
