BENTON, Mo. -- Gilbert "Gil" Carlyle, 68, of Benton, formerly of Commerce, Mo., and East Prairie, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at his home, surrounded by family.

He was born July 5, 1945, at Catron, Mo., to the late James Frank and Sally Mae Western Carlyle.

Gil was a farmer several years and also worked for a pavement recycling company before retiring. He lived near Commerce 27 years before moving to Benton.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg and Nikki Carlyle and Brent Carlyle of Benton; a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Cleo Wright of Scott City; four brothers, Raymond Carlyle of Santa Rosa, Calif., Sam Carlyle of Des Arc, Ark., Max Carlyle of Charleston, Mo., and Harold Carlyle of East Prairie.

Also six sisters, Sue Boyer of Fredericktown, Mo., Pat Faire of Sikeston, Mo., Glenda Morgan of Greenfield, Tenn., Linda Rushing of Wickliffe, Ky., Bernice Ray of Kevil, Ky., and Janie Bush of Bonner Springs, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Brittany, Brooke, Blake, Taylor, Baily, Brent, Brandon and Hunter; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Gavin; and a host of relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Donald, Edward and an infant brother; and a sister, Eula Matheny.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
