Gilbert "Snooks" Boren, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion, Ill.
He was born Feb. 15, 1916, in Cape Girardeau, son of A.G. and Hilda Schulenberg Boren. He and Nellie Pierce were married Feb. 22, 1939, at Benton, Mo.
Boren was a graduate of Central High School. He had been a bricklayer. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, BAC Local 23 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from February 1945 to October 1946.
Survivors include his wife of Jonesboro, Ill.; a son, Gilbert Boren Jr. of McClure, Ill.; a daughter, Karen Walker of Pawnee, Ill.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Loren Boettcher officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
