BENTON -- Funeral Mass for Gilbert Leroy "Gil" Robert of Benton will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Denis Catholic Church. The Rev. Normand Varone will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton after 4 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7, and Knights of Columbia prayers at 7:30.

Robert, 61, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born July 11, 1937, at Benton, son of Theon Emil and Genevieve "Ginny" Loftin Robert. He and Mary Ann Glastetter were married Nov. 16, 1957, at New Hamburg.

Robert owned and operated Robert's Restaurant and Catering Service. He was a member of St. Denis Church and Knights of Columbus Council 4311 in Oran.

He was a pitcher for softball teams in Cape Girardeau, New Hamburg, Benton, Sikeston and Jefferson City. He pitched on the 1967 Missouri State Champion New Hamburg Schindler's Team.

Survivors include his wife; a son, David Robert of Benton; two daughters, Beverly Riley of Benton, Gaynel Kielhofner of Perkins; his mother of Benton; three brothers, Vernon Robert of Cape Girardeau, Gus and Don Robert, both of Benton; a sister, Georgianna "Sis" Bohannon of Benton; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
