CAIRO, Ill. -- Gertrude Fromm, 98, of Mount Carmel, Ill., formerly of Cairo, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at General Baptist Nursing Home in Mount Carmel.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1901, at Mount Carmel, daughter of Samuel and Minnie Young Toombs.
She retired as a clerk from the former Cairo Laundry Co. She was a member of Cairo Baptist Church for over 50 years, the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include two grandsons, Dr. Michael Fromm of Rockford, Ill., and Douglas Fromm of Garland, Texas; and a granddaughter, Lisa Fromm of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Fromm, in 1970.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 5 at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge. Dr. Larry L. Potts will officiate.
Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
