Gertrude "Gertie" Devore, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Life Care Center.
She was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Grover and Bertha Goza Bond. She and Otto Devore were married in 1953. He passed away in 1990.
Gertie was a 1940 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. She worked at the former Florsheim Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau, retiring after 40 years. She then did domestic housework. Gertie enjoyed quilting, gardening, fishing, country music and the Little Ole Opry.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Sandy (Michael) Rahlfs, and a granddaughter, Ashley Rahlfs, both of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Kate Bond of Cape Girardeau; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Chris, John and Aaron Bond; and two sisters, Helen Bryant and Kate King.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating. Interment will be in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to First Presbyterian Church in Jackson or First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau.
