MOUNDS, Ill. -- Gertrude B. Thompson, 81, of Mounds, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was born April 8, 1913, in Villa Ridge, daughter of Roy and Lillian Aldrich Bonner. She married Joseph T. Thompson, who preceded her in death...

MOUNDS, Ill. -- Gertrude B. Thompson, 81, of Mounds, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She was born April 8, 1913, in Villa Ridge, daughter of Roy and Lillian Aldrich Bonner. She married Joseph T. Thompson, who preceded her in death.

Thompson graduated from Southern Illinois University. She was an elementary teacher 42 years in Mounds, Villa Ridge, Shelbyville and Carlisle.

She was a member of Congregational Church in Mounds, SIU Alumni Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

Survivors include three sisters, Marguerite Ward of Mounds, Marian Lentz of Evansville, Ind., and Garnett Tierney of Winter Haven, Fla.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Tom Ellison and F.M. Speakman officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.
