With her daughters by her side, Geraldine Masterson Rodgers, 85, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at her home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Sept. 6, 1926, in New Madrid, Mo., daughter of Jack and Florence Mast Masterson. She and John Wiley Rodgers were married Aug. 22, 1946, in New Madrid. They had been married 59 years when he passed away Feb. 4, 2006.
Rodgers had worked at Sears in Cape Girardeau and Target in Houston. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Cape Girardeau.
She loved to travel and be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and North Carolina Tarheels men's basketball.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Jean (Richard) Harmon of Liberty Township, Ohio, Jo Ann Hearnes and Linda Underdown of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Nadine (Pete) Vent of New Madrid, Carolyn Vent of Parma, Mo.; a brother, Paul (Carrell) Masterson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two grandsons, John Robert (Jamie) Hearnes of Murfreesboro, David (Hallie) Hearnes of Knoxville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Angela (Ronnie) Aber of Fort Thomas, Ky., Geri (Tyler) McKellar of Wickliffe, Ohio; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Wiley Hearnes, Caroline Elizabeth Moore, Graysen Douglas Aber, September Grace McKellar, Jackson Caleb Hearnes, Joseph Douglas Aber; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Wiley Rodgers Jr.; two sisters, Margaret Davis and Maxine Barron; three brothers, Jackie, William and Jimmie Lee Masterson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, and from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at New Madrid Pentecostal Church in New Madrid.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Darrell E. Faire Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
