Geraldine S. "Gerry" Hartel, 82, of Perryville, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at her home. She was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Joseph H. and Geraldine H. Galeener Schlue. She and Edward A. Hartel were married July 27, 1963. He preceded her in death Aug. 28, 1999...

Geraldine S. "Gerry" Hartel, 82, of Perryville, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at her home.

She was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Joseph H. and Geraldine H. Galeener Schlue. She and Edward A. Hartel were married July 27, 1963. He preceded her in death Aug. 28, 1999.

Geraldine was a 1949 graduate of Central High School in Cape Girardeau, and attended Southeast Missouri State University.

She was a service representative at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. from Jan. 10, 1951, until retiring Oct. 3, 1981. She was secretary/receptionist at St. Mary's Seminary in Perryville from October 1981 until December 2000. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary Council 1263, Perry County Historical Society and a life member of Retired Telephone Pioneers in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include two brothers, Joseph W. Schlue of Phoenix and John H.G. Schlue of Aurora, Colo.; three nieces, Julie F. Hall of Penhook, Va., Melissa K. Blechle of Columbus, Ohio, and Jessica Lehew of Aurora; a nephew, Joseph E. Schlue of Denver; a great-niece, Eva Schlue of Denver; three great-nephews, Aidan Schlue of Denver, and Ethan and Ford Lehew of Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Carmen "Beth" Blechle; and a nephew, Bruce H. Blechle.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the General Scholarship Fund at Perry County School District 32, St. Vincent Endowment Fund or charity/educational fund of your choice.

Young and Sons Funeral Home provided the arrangements.
