ORAN, Mo. -- Gerald E. Schlitt, 74, of Oran passed away Monday, March 19, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Nov. 6, 1943, in Cape Girardeau to the late Mose and Germaine Welter Schlitt. He and Bernadette DeBrock married April 30, 1966, and she survives of the home.
Gerald was a self-employed farmer. He retired from construction with Columbia Construction Co. in Cape Girardeau.
He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, Missouri, and was a member of Oran Knights of Columbus Council 4311.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadette Schlitt; four daughters, Stephanie (Dennis) Scheeter of Chaffee, Tina (Darren) LeGrand of St. Peters, Missouri, and Sherri (Roger) Wood and Stacey (Mark) Starnes, both of Oran; two brothers, Jerome Schlitt of Oran and Alfred (Doris) Schlitt of Gordonville; nine grandchildren, Chelsey (Chris) Hanback of Scott City, Caitlin (Dave) Randolph of Jackson, Courtney (Caleb) Priggel of Kelso, Missouri, Sarah, Cameron and Colton LeGrand, all of St. Peters, Tiffany (Justin) Wood of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Brittany Wood and Allison (Hunter) Cummins, both of Oran; four great-grandchildren, Leyton and Kason Hanback of Scott City and Ellee and Rydge Priggel of Kelso; and a great-grandson on the way in May.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alexis Cummins.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. and rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery in Chaffee.
