Gerald D. Lyne Sr., 85, of Delta died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born March 19, 1918, in Oran, Mo., son of Edmond S. and Fannie Lobmaster Lyne Sr. He first married Thelma Terry, who preceded him in death in 1963. He and Retta M. Parker were married Jan. 29, 1966...

Gerald D. Lyne Sr., 85, of Delta died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 19, 1918, in Oran, Mo., son of Edmond S. and Fannie Lobmaster Lyne Sr. He first married Thelma Terry, who preceded him in death in 1963. He and Retta M. Parker were married Jan. 29, 1966.

Gerald served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before World War II. He served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring March 1, 1966, as a technical sergeant.

He received a bachelor of arts degree in agriculture from Southeast Missouri State University in May 1972. He retired in 1978 as a self-employed farmer.

A member of First Baptist Church in Oran, Mo., he was an honorary member of Randles General Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher 27 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, past master of Whitewater Masonic Lodge 417, and a member of Sam Davis Masonic Lodge 661 in Smyrna, Tenn.

He was a Shriner with AINAD Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of East St. Louis, Ill. Gerald was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Southern Illinois, and Sword of Bunker Hill in Jackson. He was named to Who's Who in Indian Artifacts, and published a children's book, "Grandpa's Stories."

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Joyce Parker of Whitewater; a daughter and son-in-law, Deloris Jackson and Clifton Trentham of Delta; grandchildren, Deborah and Harold Lancaster, David and Tara Parker of Delta, Cheryl and Ron Pruett of Chaffee, Mo., Mitchell and Theresa Jackson of Cape Girardeau.

Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Rhonda and Kevin Parker of Chaffee, Shonda Burnett of Jackson, Chris Hornbuckle of Chaffee, James and Ashley Hornbuckle of Advance, Mo., David and Vicki Macke of Cape Girardeau, Stacy and Ben Stork of Cape Girardeau, Shelby and Ashley Jackson of Cape Girardeau, Brandon and Brent Parker of Chaffee, Brady Parker of Columbia, Mo., Chelsie Parker of Delta; great-great-grandchildren, Molly and Wyatt Parker of Chaffee, Carleigh Burnett of Jackson, Makayla Macke of Cape Girardeau; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald "Denny" Lyne Jr.; a grandson, Doug Parker; two sisters, Gladys Stuart and Dorothy Montgomery; and a brother, Edmond S. Lyne Jr.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today. Masonic rites by Whitewater Lodge will be held at 7.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Keith Price and Pastor Bob Murray officiating. Burial will be in Friend Cemetery at Oran, with full military honors.

Pallbearers are David Parker, Ron Pruett, Chris Hornbuckle, James Hornbuckle, Mitchell Jackson, Harold Lancaster and Kevin Parker.
