GERALD HOWELL

Gerald "Gerry" Howell, 63, of Newtown, Va., died Wednesday, March 10, 1993, in a Newtown nursing home.

He was born March 16, 1929, in Cape Girardeau, son of Alphonso and Ethel Dockins Howell. He and Corrine Steakley were married April 5, 1953, in Godley, Texas.

Howell was a 1947 graduate of Central High School, and 1951 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. While at the university he was head drum major with the Golden Eagles Band.

He then was minister of music in Baptist churches in Ft. Smith, Ark., Texas and Maryland. He later was a soloist with the U.S. Army Chorus, and performed at many state functions. He retired from the Army in 1986.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kevin and Joel Howell of Columbia, Md.; a brother, Eugene Howell of Texas; three sisters, Earlene Izie of Pittsburgh, Pa., Fay Siefert of Columbus, Ohio, and Sue Hackney of Omaha, Neb.

Service is pending in Newtown due to weather conditions.
