Gerald "Jerry" Blattel, 71, of Gordonville died Friday, May 1, 2015, at his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1943, in Cape Girardeau to Earl William and Linda Green Blattel.
He and Joyce Petitt were married June 15, 1963, in Scott City.
Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Central High School. Immediately after high school, he began a career as a longtime employee of R.B. Potashnick, where he worked as a heavy-equipment mechanic. He was a member of Operating Engineers Union.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Masonic lodge in Jackson.
Jerry loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a life member of the N.R.A. He also enjoyed spending lots of time with his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Blattel of Gordonville; a son, Todd (Penny) Blattel of Gordonville; a daughter, Melissa (Matt) Locke of Reeds Spring, Missouri; one brother, Tom (Barb) Blattel of Cape Girardeau; and five grandchildren, Johnathon, Bailey and Justin Locke and Wyatt and Wesley Blattel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville, with the Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiating.
Burial will be at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gordonville.
