SIKESTON -- Funeral for George G. Story of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Charleston. The Rev. Rick White will officiate, with burial in IOOF Cemetery.

McMikle Funeral Home at Charleston is in charge of arrangements.

Story, 76, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at his home.

He was born June 20, 1922, in Charleston, son of Ernest A. and Mary Loebe Story. He and Eleanor McClure were married Aug. 9, 1951.

Story lived in Charleston most of his life. He was a landowner and farmer from 1935 until retiring in 1987. He was also president of First Security State Bank and served many years on its board of directors.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Charleston Masonic Lodge 407 AF&AM, Knights Templar, Shrine Club, Missouri Conservation Commission and received the Lifetime Conservationist award. He was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Story helped to incorporate and served as president of Mississippi County Industrial Development Authority. He was a member and former president of St. John's Levee and Drainage District and Mississippi County Port Authority.

He was a former member of the board of directors of Southeast Missouri Private Industry Council. He was active in the Democratic party, and had been a delegate to the National Democratic Convention.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Thomas and Ernest "Pete" Story of Charleston; a brother, Sam Story of Charleston; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
