GEORGE RANEY

ANNA, Ill. -- George Prentice Raney, 83, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at his home in Anna.

He was born Aug. 24, 1915, in Clay County, Ark., the son of James Loren and Jesse Raney.

Raney served in the military during World War II.

He retired from Carbondale Community High School. He was a member of Gospel Assembly Church in Anna.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Raney of Carbondale; three daughters, Dorotha Reynolds of Anna, Linda Cook of Makanda, and Ann Upchurch of Carbondale; three sisters, Erma Lovett and Mary Lou Raney, both of Piggott, Ark., and Mabel Ates of St. Peters; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and a grandchild.

Visitation will be at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gospel Assembly Church in Anna. The Rev. Walter Stevenson will officiate, with burial in the Anna Cemetery.
