FROHNA -- Funeral service for George V. Newman Sr. of Frohna will be held at 1 p.m. today at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont, Ill. Burial will be in Newman Cemetery near Altamont.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time.

Newman, 69, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at Frohna.

He was born March 24, 1928, in Effingham County, Ill., son of Alexander C. and Carrie M. Higgs Newman. He and Nada Garner were married April 17, 1949.

Newman was a truck driver 25 years with W.G. Best Homes. He was water commissioner 10 years in Verde Lakes, Ariz. Newman was a member of the Baptist Church in Altamont.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nelda Koeberl of Frohna; two sons, Thomas Newman of Altamont, George Newman Jr. of Effingham; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
