CAIRO, Ill. -- George Roy Hornberger, 77, of Cairo died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 12, 1926, at Cairo, son of Roy and Helen Porter Hornberger. He and his wife, Louise, were married for 38 years.

Hornberger owned and operated George Roy's Heating and Cooling in Cairo for over 30 years before his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member the Cairo VFW Post 2649.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Victoria Sauerbrunn of Olmsted, Ill.; a son, Michael Henckell of Jackson; a sister, Mary Louise Tucker of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, David Hornberger of Cairo; a stepdaughter, Joyce Berry of Cairo; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. Monsignor Bill McGhee will officiate, with burial following in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation.
