CHARLESTON -- George Herman Lankheit, 83, of Charleston died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1992 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 7, 1909 in the Texas Bend community, the son of John and Mary Stricker Lankheit.
He had lived in Mississippi County his entire life and was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Charleston.
He was employed with Brown Shoe Company until his retirement in 1974.
On Aug. 18, 1938, he married the former Marcella Catherine Ressel. She survives.
He is also survived by five sons, Charles Lankheit, Towaco, N.J., Dan Lankheit, Eden Prairie, Minn., Cliff Lankheit, Sikeston, Larry Lankheit, Centralia, Ill., Al Lankheit, St. Louis; three daughters, Marietta Cockran, Pensacola, Fla., Millie DePyper, Hazelwood, Norma Cook, St. Louis; three sisters, Helen Carmen, Charleston, Betty Schwerzler, Chicago, Rose Reeves, Success, Ark.; and 18 grandchildren.
One daughter and three brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral mass was held Monday at St. Henry's Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Kunkel officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston was in charge of arrangements.
