ADVANCE, Mo. -- George Veon Green, 80, of Advance passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at his daughter's home in Cape Girardeau surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Chaffee, Missouri, to the late Earl and Pearl McKnight Green. He married Minnie Schiwitz on June 30, 1961, and she survives of the home.
George was a retired mechanic for Genesis Transportation in Cape Girardeau. He was of the Baptist faith. He served in the United States Army from Oct. 1, 1958, to Sept. 29, 1960. He was a member of Chaffee Masonic Lodge No. 615. George was with the Advance volunteer fire department for 25 years and served as fire chief for 20 years. He also served as a police officer for Advance.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie; one son, Russell (Tina) Green of Trinity, Texas; one daughter, Tina (Robert) Macklem of Cape Girardeau; four grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of service Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
A Masonic service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Chaffee Masonic Lodge in charge of the service.
