PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- George E. Ford, 88, of Perryville died March 29, 2015, at Estates of Perryville.
He was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Whitewater, Missouri, son of Ernest and Mary Elizabeth (Sommers) Ford. He and Estelle L. Berry were married Aug. 21, 1948. She preceded him in death March 21, 2008.
George had worked as a heavy-equipment operator and a farmer.
He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Crosstown, Missouri, and Local 513.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. George loved raising and training horses.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley (Garry) Vernon of Perryville; one son, Gary (Kim) Ford of Oak Ridge, Missouri; two brothers, Bill (Ruth Ann) Ford of Cape Girardeau and Jim Ford of Fruitland; three grandchildren, Mekisha (Shane) Hileman, Jason Vernon and Cody (Amber) Ford; four great-grandchildren, Ryan and Nathan Hileman and Taylor and James Ford; and two step-great-grandchildren, Alexa and Chase Hileman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, James Ford; four brothers, Ralph, Glen and Robert Ford and Robert Sommers; and one sister, Maxine Mansker.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Young and Sons Funeral Home and from 6:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Steve Francis and Rev. Donny Ford will be co-officiating. Burial in New Salem Methodist Cemetery in Daisy, Missouri. Military graveside provided by American Legion Post 133 and Missouri Delta Team.
Memorials are preferred for breast-cancer research.
