Georgene "Genie" Kremer was welcomed to her heavenly home and into the loving arms of Jesus after passing away peacefully Saturday, June 29, 2024.

Genie was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Westphalia to Zeno and Pauline Schauwecker. She married her sweetheart, James "Jim" Kremer, who lived next door. They were married in Westphalia on May 30, 1950, and shared 68 wonderful years together. She attended Westphalia schools and Jefferson City Junior College.

Jim and Genie welcomed four daughters and two sons — Kathy, Kristy, Kim, Kevin, Kelly and Kara — while living in Jefferson City. She was employed by the State Treasurer's Office and the Missouri Legislature. In 1964, the family moved to Cape Girardeau, where Genie worked for Otahki Girl Scout Council from 1973 to 1991, retiring as executive director.

Anyone who knew Genie knows her life was all about her family and friends, her faith in God, working to make everyone else's life better and thoroughly enjoying the journey along the way. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for 60 years.

Even into her 90s, she was always on the go. She loved spending time with her family, and her family loved spending time with her. Genie's house was always the hub of family activities, which included regular visits from her six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Genie loved her friends, whether it was playing bridge two or three times a week with all her card playing buddies, or outings with her Red Hatters, or Birthday Club friends.

Community involvement included president of the Women's Safe House Board of Directors, Salvation Army secretary, United Way Board and captain for the Easter Seal Fund Drive. She was a volunteer for St. Vincent Christian Services, a member of the St. Vincent Ladies Council and secretary of the parish council. She was a prayer partner at Saint Francis Medical Center perpetual adoration for nearly 20 years. She was a charter member of the Excelsior Optimist Club, Ladies Auxiliary and co-founder of the Capetown Ladies Bridge-a-thon. She also served as a Cape Girardeau Welcome Wagon representative for several years. The Catholic Committee of the Girl Scouts awarded her the St. Ann’s Award in 1980.
