Genevieve Watson, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, July 10, 2015, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Delta, to John C. and Rhoda E. Barker Hunt. She and Paul Watson were married Dec. 14, 1940, in Jackson.
Genevieve and Paul lived many years in Chaffee, Missouri, and attended the Assembly of God Church. Genevieve worked at the former shoe factory in Chaffee for 20 years, several years at the former Golden Cat south of Cape Girardeau and several years at Modern Hearing Aids in Cape Girardeau.
They moved to Cape Girardeau in late 1980 and had been married nearly 41 years when Paul passed away Aug. 19, 1981. Genevieve attended Cornerstone Church and previously attended Cape First, both in Cape Girardeau. She volunteered several years at the Teen Challenge Thrift Store in Cape Girardeau.
She was fond of animals and always had a special love for her pets. Other favorite activities included attending gospel concerts, shopping and taking bus tours around the U.S.
Loving survivors include two daughters, June (Bill) Dunning and Elaine (John T.) Cobb, both of Cape Girardeau; a daughter-in-law, Pattie (the late Paul Jr.) Watson of Nashville, Tennessee; a brother, Herschel (June) Hunt of Scott City; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Roy) Husband of Jackson; former son-in-law, Gary (Judy) Cook of Hillsboro, Missouri; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul Watson; a daughter, Carol Cook; two brothers, George and Virgil Hunt; and a niece, Deborah Hunt Hitt.
The family extends special thanks to the kind and caring staff and the nursing director of the Lutheran Home and the Lutheran Home Hospice Team.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Lance officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Mid-America Teen Challenge.
