CAPE GIRARDEAU - Geneva Lerie Parmley, of 2517 Windy Hill, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 1990. She was 94.
Parmley was a former associate professor of English at Southeast Missouri State University. She worked as a member of the university's faculty for 27 years until retiring in 1967.
She was born Sept. 15, 1896 at Leeton to William Thomas and Julie Crawford Parmley.
She taught 42 years, with 30 years at the college level. Prior to teaching at that level, she taught at Miami High School in Arizona and at West Chicago High School.
While at Southeast, she was active in student and faculty affairs. She established the College Cultural Committee and served as chairperson for five years.
A keen interest in languages and scholarship led her to the establishment of a graduate scholarship for students who wished to work towards a master's degree in either Classical Greek and Latin or modern foreign languages.
She is survived by four relatives, all who live in California. They are a sister, Hazel Reed of Eureka; nephews James Reed Jr. of Pismo Beach, Calif., and Don Stamps; and Nancy Fulbright, also of Eureka, Calif.
Four brothers preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Mount Auburn Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Neil Stein presiding.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery at Knob Noster.
