MOUNDS, Ill. -- Gene Thornton, 74, of Adams, Tenn., died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Northcrest Medical Center in Springfield, Tenn.
He was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Mounds, son of Ernest Eugene and Lola Parmley Thornton Sr.
Thornton was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Villa Ridge, Ill., and Mounds VFW.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Carter of Fairfield, Ill.; a brother, Billy Thornton of Rushville, Ill.; two sisters, Karen Walls of Mount Vernon, Ill., Virginia Jerrell of Collinsville, Ill.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds from 6-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Travis Rose Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery.
