SCOTT CITY -- R. E. "Gene" Reed, 87, of Scott City died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at his residence.
He was born June 5, 1916, at Illmo, Mo., son of Peter and Dora Russell Reed. He and Maxine Hinton were married Oct. 31, 1941, at Cape Girardeau.
Reed was a conductor for the Cotton Belt and Southern Pacific railroads until he retired in 1986. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Illmo United Meth-odist Church and the Harold O. Grauel Masonic Lodge 672 in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Dorothy Taylor of Fenton, Mo., Kay Elliot of O'Fallon, Mo., and Peggy Reed and Sally Porch of Scott City; a twin sister, Irene Bachman of Cape Girar-deau; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Jim Woeltje officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
