Memorial service for Marvin "Gene" Lear of Mason Neck, Va., will be held May 16 at Pahick Church in Alexandria, Va. Burial will be in Pahick Cemetery.
Lear, 77, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at his home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Bollinger County, son of Elijah and Elta Lear. He married Jean Clark, who preceded him in death.
Lear was a graduate of Delta High School, and attended Southeast Missouri State University.
He served in the Eighth Air Force during World War II in England. He worked for the Army in various capacities in Washington and Korea until retiring. He then was a tour guide at historical houses in the Alexandria area.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Goeller of Mason Neck; two sisters, Jewel Martin and Opal Patten of Cape Girardeau; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
