CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Gene Crump, 83, of Chaffee passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, son of Ollie Henry and Edith Sangwin Crump. He and Lurline N. Lambert were married April 19, 1985.

Gene was a 1945 graduate of Chaffee High School.

He was a technical sergeant in the Army from 1950 to 1952. He also served in the Korean conflict and was honored with the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal and the Command Ribbon with Pendant.

Gene was a commercial and graphic artist 54 years with Canedy Sign Co. in Sikeston, Mo. In 1962 he became co-owner of the company, and retired in 1996. He was a member of First Christian Church in Chaffee where he served as a deacon.

Loving survivors include his wife, Lurline; three stepdaughters, Theresa Pepple, Rita (Dennis) Friedrich and Elizabeth (Kent) Hanna, all of Chaffee; seven grandchildren, Aaron (Amanda) Fuller of Cape Girardeau, David Fuller, Lauren Bullinger (fiance Davy Copeland), Matthew Bullinger, Daniel (Amy) Hanna, Taylor Hanna, Cole Hanna, all of Chaffee; a stepgranddaughter, Molly Friedrich of Cape Girardeau; five great-grandchildren, Tristyn Hanna, Madison Menz, Logan Menz, Addalynn Hanna and Anna Fuller; and three special children to the family, Skylar, Dawson and Wyatt Copeland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a half brother and a half sister.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Lance officiating. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
