SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Gary Lynn Poyner, 57, of Scott City, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Barnes-Jewish North Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Oct. 5, 1944, in Success, Ark., he was the son of Fremon H. and Ozella Bellah Poyner.
A U.S. Army veteran, he had lived in the Scott City area for a number of years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
On May 19, 2002, he retired from Super Value Co. after 25 years of service.
On March 28, 1975, he was married to Judy M. Uthoff.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Lynn Poyner Jr. of Scott City; a daughter, Theresa Poyner of Lansing, Ill.; two brothers, Dwayne Poyner and Douglas Poyner, both of East Prairie, Mo.; three sisters, Diane Hall of Charleston, Barbara Breithaupt of Natchez, Miss., Glenda Shankle of Bertrand, Mo.; a stepbrother, David Poyner of Sikeston, Mo.; a stepsister, Betty Martin of Bertrand.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, with a rosary at 7 p.m., followed by Knights of Columbus rites.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, with the Revs. David Coon and Bill Hennecke as celebrants.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery near Charleston.
