Gary Lane Hurst Sr., 78, of Cape Girardeau passed away, Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at his home.

Gary was born June 25, 1943, to Hubert C. and Helen V. Crader Hurst in Jackson. He and Vickie Keller were married Aug. 4, 1977, in Cape Girardeau. She survives of the home.

Gary worked for Missouri Utilities in his younger years, then as a route salesman for Pepsi. He then worked many years as a meat cutter for Schnucks until his retirement. When he was younger, Gary enjoyed roller skating, bowling, fishing, camping and barbecuing.

In addition to his loving wife of 44 years, Gary is survived by five children, Gary (Michelle) Hurst Jr. of Springfield, Missouri; Jeff (Angie) Hurst of Pana, Illinois; Amy (Blyn) Reimann of Jackson; Dawn (John) Roberts of Gordonville; and Darren Voelker of Jackson; nine grandchildren, Cameron (Heather) Hurst, Tyler (Alysa) Wisecup, Tiffany Wisecup and Tucker Wisecup, all Springfield; Neely Harris of St. Louis; Lainey Harris of Pana; Blake Reimann of Jackson; Kyle (Kaitlyn) Roberts of Jackson; and Emily (Sam) Davis of Gordonville; six great-grandchildren, Braxton, Ramsey and Cohen Hurst and Monroe Wisecup, all of Springfield; Waylon Lamb of Pana; and McKinlee Roberts of Jackson; and two brothers, Dennis (Barbara) Hurst of Jackson and Michael (the late Florence) Hurst of Jackson.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Hurst, and two infant siblings.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service Friday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Boettcher, formerly of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Tilsit, officiating. Burial will follow in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
